SDSU President Stephen L. Weber Statement: SDSU Police Investigation Update

SDSU is continuing the investigation it began 12 months ago into illegal drug trafficking and sales. That investigation, led by the SDSU Police, culminated in yesterday's arrests. To date, 33 students have been arrested; each of those students has been suspended. We believe we have arrested the majority of those involved.

Last night, we announced that six fraternities – those with members who were arrested – have been placed on interim suspension pending a hearing into evidence gathered. The six fraternities include: Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Kappa Theta, Theta Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Alpha Mu.

The investigation and arrests have prompted extensive local and national media attention; some have asked what we think this publicity has done for SDSU's reputation. I have told them I am proud of the action taken by SDSU to proactively address this serious threat to our students. I believe San Diego State is a safer place as a result of this investigation; as a parent I would want my son or daughter to attend a university committed to working to provide the safest possible environment.
